The family Cavolinidae
includes species with highly modified shells and broad, wing
like epipodia. The fragile shells are only occasionally found intact
in beach
drift and sand samples but fragments may be common. At least 18
species in 7 genera (Cavolinia,
Clio, Creseis, Cuvierina, Diacavolinia, Diacria and Styliola) have been
found in Hawaiian waters.
In addition to the species listed below, Hyalocylis
striata (Rang, 1828b) has been recorded
from the North Pacific near Hawaii based on the range maps in Pelagic
Molluscs.
