Thordisa sp. #2
Maximum size: 40 mm (Gosliner,
et. al., 2008).
Identification:
This is a finely reticulated, yellow species with widely spaced
tentacular papillae
ringed with white. In some animals, a few of the papillae may be brown
rather than white.
Natural history:
Thordisa sp. #2 is
a rare species known from only two animals found in the Leeward
Islands. The Kure animal was found in the lagoon at 8 m (28 ft) and was
near a
yellow-orange egg mass. (Scott
Johnson, pers. com.)
Distribution:
Midway and Kure: also known from the Seychelles.
Taxonomic notes:
It was first recorded in Hawaii from Kure Atoll by Scott Johnson on
June 17, 1980.
