Identification:
This
is a red species with dusky patches and brown flecks. The notum is
flecked with white and there are enlarged white papillae scattered
around its margin. The rhinophore clubs have inflated bases and
erect, nipple-like tips. The lamellae are white and there is a white
band on the notum between the rhinophores.
Natural history:
Rostanga sp. #1 is
known from only two animals found in moderately exposed rocky
habitats.
Distribution:
Big Island and Maui.
Taxonomic notes:
It was first
recorded in Hawaii at Puako, Big Island by Scott Johnson in Sept.
1980.
