Lamellaria sp. #11
Maximum size: 13 mm.
Identification:
This
is
a dark orange
species with large internal clusters of white granules that generate a
fine, reticulated appearance within the clusters. It has a narrow
transverse bar of superficial white pigment that lacks the violet dorsal
tinge of most Lamellaria sp. #1 transverse bars. The large clusters of granules also separate it from that species. It may be distinguished from Lamellaria sp. #6 by its darker orange color and lack of brown spots on the underside of the mantle.
Natural history:
Lamellaria sp. #11
is known from one animal found in a moderately exposed rocky
habitat at about 5 m (15 ft). When flipped, it rolled its mantle edges in a manner reminiscent of Lamellaria(?) sp. #10. (though not as completely).
Distribution:
Maui.
Taxonomic notes: There is some uncertainty in separating this species from other listed species of Lamellaria. It
was
first
recorded
in
Hawaii from Kapalua Bay, Maui by CP on April 11, 2019.
