Identification:  The shell of this species is ovate with prominent axial ribs. It has five whorls when mature and the apex and base are dark brown, contrasting with the light brown of the remainder of the shell. The axial ribs increase in size gradually at the transition between the protoconch and teleoconch. That trait and its color distinguish it from Odostomella rosa. The two-toned color and fewer axial ribs distinguish it from Herviera sp. #2. The animal is cream, sometimes with white flecks. Natural history:  Shells of Herviera gliriella are moderately rare in beach drift. Live animals are found occasionally in shallow rocky habitats. Distribution:  Maui, Oahu, French Frigate Shoals and Midway (also Johnston Atoll?). Taxonomic notes:  The description of Herviera gliriella in Kay, 1979 suggests that she may not have been distinguishing it from Odostomella rosa and Herviera sp. #2.
