Carminodoris sp. #2
Maximum size: 20 mm (Gosliner,
et. al., 2008).
Identification:
This species is similar to Carminodoris bifurcata with
bi-colored branchia and flame-like white markings on its rhinophores.
However, it differs from that species in having proportionately smaller
tubercles. The middle of the notum is redish and there are 3-4 slightly enlarged tubercles with white tips on each side.
Natural history:
Carminodoris sp.
#2 is known from only five or six animals.
Distribution:
Big Island, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, French Frigate Shoals and Maro Reef.
Taxonomic notes:
It was first recorded in Hawaii off Makena, Maui by PF on Aug. 25, 1993.
