Laemodonta
sp. #1

Laemodonta sp. #1: shell
Maximum size:  6.4 mm (Severns, 2011).

Identification:  This species has a stout, dark-brown shell with flattened spiral cords separated by narrow striae. There are two folds inside the outer lip and three folds on the columella.

Natural history:  We haven't personally seen Laemodonta sp. #1 on Maui. However, it's been found on rocks around anchialine pools at Cape Kinau. (Severns, 2011).

Distribution:  Maui.

Taxonomic notes:  It's illustrated in Severns, 2011 as Laemodonta octanfracta (with the more common species that Kay, 1979 assigns to that name listed as Laumodonta clausa). However, we haven't been able to confirm that usage with WoRMS and other sources. So, we're listing it as L. sp. #1.
