The family
Pleurobranchidae was recently revised to include the
Pleurobranchaeidae. As a result, it's now considered to be the only pleurobranchomorph family in
Hawaii. About 16 species are found in the state representing seven
genera (Berthella, Berthellina, Euselenops, Pleurehdera, Pleurobranchaea, Pleurobranchella, Pleurobranchus and Tomoberthella).
An animal that may be an additional deep water species (400-600 m) was found at Johnston Atoll by
the NOOA-Okeanos Explorer expedition, Laulima O Ka Moana, in 2017. Given it's
relative proximity, it might also be present in Hawaii.
